CMA Expansion Information

Dedication of CMA's $10 million expansion will occur on Saturday, October 23, 2004 at 10 am. Join us as we cut the ribbon during the official City of Los Angeles dedication and public opening. It's hard to believe that more than two years will have passed from the day nine gold shovels broke ground on the Aquarium's expansion to the day we gather once again for the public unveiling of Cabrillo Marine Aquarium's new wing designed by Barton Phelps and Associates including our beautiful Aquatic Nursery, Exploration Center, Virginia Reid Moore Marine Research Library, and S. Mark Taper Courtyard.

Exploration Center
Beginning October 23, we will open the new Exploration Center which will help all visitors explore the habitats and organisms of the Cabrillo Beach Coastal Park through hands-on interactive exhibits and activities. Open all CMA public hours. Tuesday - Friday 12 noon - 5 pm, weekends from 10 am - 5 pm.

Aquatic Nursery
Visit the growing baby sea animals and the young scientists who investigate their growth in the new Aquatic Nursery. Join in the enjoyment of scientific discovery and learn more about the process of growing aquatic organisms. Open all CMA public hours. Tuesday - Friday 12 noon - 5 pm, weekends 10 am - 5 pm.

This page shows some images of Cabrillo Marine Aquarium's expansion construction. The top views show the large windows of the Virginia Reid Moore Marine Research Library on the second floor. Below that space are the life support systems that serve the adjacent Aquaculture Laboratory and Exploration Center.
